We’re almost done putting up the picket fence in the front yard. I’ll spare the grueling details of the work. Suffice it to say I’m covered with scratches, including one from some nice, rusty barbed wire.
I’ve started proofing kingjulien’s stuff and doubt that there will be anything for me to do as far as editing goes. His writing really knows how to capture your attention.
Out of sheer boredom, I created an account at VirtualTourist.com but still have to get my “page” up and running on there. This site really helped me when planning the honeymoon, so I thought I would share anything I could to help others.
Less than a week until my and Ralph’s one-year anniversary. I’ve got his gift ordered, though I doubt it will get here on time. That’s okay, I had to tell him what it was to make sure he didn’t already have it (When In Rome on vinyl so that he can have our song on vinyl :D). It doesn’t sound like much, but it’s our song, he loves vinyl and he’s super hard to shop for IF you can find something he’d like that he hasn’t already purchased.
Also need to get some stuff together for vacation.
I’m really digging this album Sean gave us. The Checkers “Make a Move.” been listening to it all day.
I’m about to commit a hate crime. I’ve not technically graduated from community college because my credits from University didn’t transfer as seamlessly as they’d like you to believe. So, being employed in the field my degree would be in, it easily slipped my mind when I didn’t graduate…4 years ago. I’m okay with it looking like I was a bit slow if someone were to look at my records because I can explain what happened and, if not, I was employed in that field during that time.
HOWEVER, when the teacher who told me that he wished me and my designs “would burn in Hell” tells me to send in the app in after Tax Day to ensure that his paperwork gets filed first (thus making things easier) after I had to argue with him about all my credits being there, and then, not only was Tax Day the cut off to not pay a late fee for graduating in Spring, but HIS PAPERWORK IS NOT TURNED IN YET, that’s enough to turn me into Urban Girlfriend Mayo and punch his face off.
Had lunch with my old friend Jennifer. The first friend I ever made in this town and the initial spark that started the friendship was the mutual eye-rolling for some ditz in one of our classes. We both caught each other mid-roll and a friendship was created. Of course, through the years of growing up, we drifted in and out of each other’s lives, but it still feels like less than a day has passed since we last saw each other. Our parents used to even call us twins because of our similar caustic attitudes.
She stopped by later in the evening to see the new house and our wedding photos. Our work schedules don’t match up at all though that may change. However I think we’ll be seeing more of each other.

Just got back from another Jewdriver show. Great stuff. I walked away with a free yarmulke that doesn’t stay on my misshapen head as well as another present from our friend. My friend with the beautiful eyes went with us, which was really nice because I haven’t seen her in couple weeks and this really wasn’t her scene. Ralph went back for the last band, but I decided to get to bed. It’s hard enough to wake me up for work when I get enough sleep as it is. Ask Ralph. I try to punch him when he wakes me up, so he started sending in the puppy to do it because he knows I’d hit somebody’s mother before hitting a dog.

So the powder room has been a headache because there’s always something leaking. Turns out the basin of the toilet had a crack in it. So Ralph went and got a new one at lunch today and hopefully we can call it good tonight. I had a packed week this week, including some freelance and attending a lecture on growing veggies. Speaking of veggies, the green house tipped over in the wind when we forgot to bring it in last Friday night. So for a few hours on Saturday I was doing emergency transplants, using any container I could that had some heft to it. The only things I had on hand were boxes that you get from places like CostCo and Sam’s Club, so the tomatoes are in a tequila box, the various squash and eggplant are in a pizza dough box and some of my sugar snap peas are in a box that my fancy door knob came in.
Wow! I didn’t realize how long it has been since I last posted something. Time really flies these days. Work has been so crazy the last two weeks that I have taken tomorrow off to unwind before a few more big projects fall onto my desk. I think we’re finishing up the powder room tonight (finally). Tomorrow night we are going to the Franz Ferdinand and Death Cab for Cutie concert. Got an email today from KingJulien about editing and laying out with him a book he’s putting out. That sounds like SO much fun. I hope he also puts some of his photography in there because he takes great photos and his lomo shots are amazing. I need to remember to ask him that when we talk.
Oh yeah, I decided to really put an effort into getting my whole degree thing taken care of. When I was supposed to graduate 4 years ago, my credits were all wonky and then life got in the way. The graduation lady told me on the phone yesterday that I have enough credits for two Associates degrees, so I’ll be cashing that all in soon. woohoo!

Last night was my kind-of-surprise-party, meaning, it was mentioned to me and I thought it was a joke, but it turned out to be real. Ralph and Cody thought it would be fun to get the boys together to meet at the new gay bar where “our” old gay bar used to be. First Ralph, Cody and I went to the 4th St. Bistro for dinner (because one of their appetizer specials is foie gras, which I absolutely love when it’s sauteed with fruit. That night was quince and it was served with gingerbread slices. w00t!) then proceeded to Neutron nightclub.
Many years ago (nine, actually) it was the bar where I met most of my boys, including Cody, my dearest, best friend. However, many years ago, it also played better music and was fun. I tried. I tried really hard, but staying there was made painful, thanks to the crappy DJ. From what I gathered, his theory is, if you play music really loud, it gets really good (because you are now deaf). His music selection was awful. AWFUL. Any modern song that sampled an 80s song was played. If he wanted to play a song that did not have an 80s sample in it, HE PLAYED AN 80s SONG ALONG WITH IT. I hate him. I hate him now.
Then, to add to my hatred for him, his music kept stopping because he was over-heating his equipment (so he says). The first time it went out was about 5 minutes after the music got unbearably loud. As we looked at him with utter contempt, we noticed this neon light behind him and couldn’t figure out exactly what it was. Well, we stared at it for a few minutes to try and figure out what it was when the dj suddenly gets back up (he was crouching underneath his set-up to find records) and it looked like he was rising out of the neon “sculpture.” Cody tells us it looks like labia to him, now that the dj just “popped out of it.” We all agree, but I have issues with these 3 squiggly lines that are above the main part. So, having to yell over the too-loud music, I say, “A vagina that needs chapstick” RIGHT when the music died. Everyone in that bar stared right at me and for this, I hate that dj forever.
I got dragged onto the dancefloor a few times, but the music was so bad, I wasn’t really into it (and i was really looking forward to a good night of dancing. I think we’ll go to 80s night at Vino this friday to make up for it.). Finally, after an especially disappointing song, I told Ralph that I was done. I actually got my hopes up when the music started on a particular song, bounded onto the dancefloor and then about shat myself when I heard that it was another poorly sampled mix. So we said our goodbyes and left at about 2am. I hope this dj isn’t a harbinger of things to come in my 30s now that tomorrow (the 6th), I will be a hating-that-dj-30-year-old.
